GUNNER

Back in February 2023 , we were notified about Gunner, who had been spotted running around locally for a few days and seemed to be limping. We were able to catch him when he had settled himself on the side of a canal, although he grumbled a few times when we approached him, taking our time and by sliding ourselves slowly, with small movements towards him, we were able to put a lead over his head and bring him to safety.

Once at the kennels, a quick examination showed us that there were no major concerns but of course, vet José Luis, would have to give him a thorough examination.

Gunner’s ears were very dirty and were given a very much needed clean out and he was given ear drops for a couple of weeks to clear any infection and alleviate any discomfort.

We also noticed pretty quickly that there was blood coming from his penis. A urine sample was needed to be sent off for analysis. Using a urinary catheter is normally the preferred option by Jose Luis for getting a sample, as it is a better way to obtain a pure sample with no risk of contamination. Gunner behaved incredibly well throughout the process, considering only knowing us for a short time.

The results of the urine analysis showed that he had some crystals so he would need to take antibiotics and be on a diet of special urinary food. Unfortunately, Gunner had to undergo several more urine analysis, as he continued to produce crystals but thankfully the last test showed that he is now clear of crystals.

Gunner was also sent to the vet’s clinic for x-rays to identify the cause of the limping which we were relieved to discover revealed no underlying issues or injuries and could be resolved with care and rest.

In addition to all the medical treatments mentioned above, Gunner received all the standard medical care that we are able to provide for our dogs. He has been fully vaccinated, with a passport, microchipped, blood tested and castrated and treated for ticks, fleas, wormed and on heartworm preventative.

Thanks to the additional funds raised by the ´give your small change to make a big change´ Little Willy fundraiser organized by the girls at JJs salon, it has helped cover some of the costs of Gunner’s additional medical treatments

This gorgeous boy would make a great companion for the right family. Gunner loves human contact, loves playing with toys and playing fetch. He gets on well with his kennel mates and could play tuggy with kennel mate Lexi all day given the chance If you believe you can provide Gunner his forever home then please contact the kennels directly.
