CARIÑO

In November 2024 we were contacted about a dog abandoned by a canal in Albatera. Locals were feeding him, but he was too frightened to let anyone approach, always running off and only returning once people had gone. The huge area made rescuing him extremely difficult.

We spoke with a nearby homeowner who said he had been there since April or May and told us about a woman, Elena, who fed him daily and had slowly gained some of his trust, though she still couldn’t catch him. We left our number in case help was ever needed.

Two months later, in January 2025, Elena called to say she had finally managed to catch him but couldn’t keep him. That’s how Cariño came into our care – a big, handsome boy, very nervous and trembling, but in good physical condition. His blood tests showed he is positive for Leishmaniosis with high levels, and he is now on medication.

Thanks to time and patience, today Cariño is a different dog, although he is still wary of new people, he is a happy, very affectionate, playful boy who love belly rubs and walks, and, always greets you with a wagging tail

Cariño is fully vaccinated, microchipped with a passport, castrated, blood tested, on treatment for ticks and fleas, dewormed and on heartworm prevention. He walks well on a lead, and is a gentle, loving boy.

Cariño is now 6.5 years old and he would make a super companion for the right family.
