PALMA

Palma spent nearly a year on the run, impossible to catch. Whenever anyone came near her, she would simply run away.

Luckily, a local farmer managed to gain her trust. Palma had befriended his dog and started following him around, which finally gave him the chance to safely catch her and for us to go and pick her up

And what a sweetie she is. She absolutely loves attention and affection, and you honestly wouldn’t believe that this is the same girl who spent so long running from people.

Sadly, Palma has tested positive for microfilaria and Dirofilaria (heartworm). This means she will need treatment to eliminate the worms and, separately, treatment for the microfilariae.

The adult Dirofilaria worms live mainly in the heart and pulmonary blood vessels and produce millions of microfilariae, which circulate through the bloodstream.

Her treatment needs to be carefully managed because some dogs can react to the medication, while others can have serious reactions as the worms die and pass through the heart, lungs and blood vessels. In severe cases, these complications can unfortunately be fatal.

So for Palma, it means extra vigilance, lots of rest and careful monitoring throughout her treatment.

Thankfully, Palma who is around 2 years old, is now safe, and she has a team around her who will make sure she gets everything she needs.

It may be a long road, but we are hopeful that with the right treatment, plenty of rest and lots of love, Palma will get through this and go on to enjoy the happy life she deserves.
